Join members of Wirral Wildlife and Wirral Rangers for a morning stroll through some of Wirral’s best heathlands, and learn about their wildlife and management.

Matt Thomas: “Green Shoots & Orange Tips – Spring at Wirral Country Park.” Room B, Heswall Hall, 7.30 p.m.
Matthew Thomas is a Ranger at Wirral Country Park, Thurstaston. Along with his love for the natural world, is a keen interest in photography. With autumn and winter approaching, a chance to look forward optimistically, to another cycle of our local natural world.

Wirral Wildlife members will be serving refreshments, selling Trust goods and plants, as well as publicising the group. On the Sunday we shall be sharing the coach house with a walking stick maker and a jewellery maker, who should provide added interest.

Enjoy the traditional activities of the apple harvest. Taste over a dozen varieties of locally grown apples and help to make juice using our traditional wooden apple press. Take part in the 'Longest Apple Peel' competition by using our mechanical peeler to remove a continuous piece of peel from an apple.

Glyn Smith: “Almost everything about the Apple!”

Glyn Smith has been the Head Gardener at the National Trust’s Erddig for 24 years following 8 years at Kew Gardens. Starting with a box of apples, he will tell us about their history, pollination, rootstocks and a little about cider apples; in fact almost everything!

Hazel Coppicing and Pond Restoration Weekend at Quarter Bank Coppice, Thornton Wood.
A chance for Members to get involved with some practical conservation work on one of the Trust’s reserves. There will be a bonfire and ‘campfire cuisine’; let Paul Loughnane know you are coming and there will be a potato baking for you! Meet at 9.30 am in Thornton Common Road where it crosses the M53.

Paul Loughnane: “The Wirral Countryside Volunteers – the first 25 years.” Room B, Heswall Hall, 7.30 p.m.
Paul is secretary of the group and will give an illustrated talk of the valuable conservation work that the Group does throughout Wirral.
